Investment Professional

Located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Verger Capital Management LLC is an outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) firm dedicated to providing investment management services to non-profit institutions. Through our advisory services, we seek to serve institutions in their philanthropic endeavors, whether that means the ability to award scholarships to students, provide grants for research, or offer valuable services to their respective communities.

Founded in 2014, Verger was formed from the Wake Forest University Office of Investments to manage the university’s endowment.  We manage $2.7 billion in assets across our non-profit clients and are seeking to grow our talented team of professionals.

Since inception, Verger has been committed to building an inclusive culture that encourages diversity of thought and respect for the needs of our clients and community.  Our team is comprised of experienced and dedicated individuals who are driven by the opportunity to grow and shape the future of the firm.  Our mission is to “invest in the lives of others” and we do that through hard work and a sense of community among our team and our clients.  In addition to a strong culture, Verger also offers its employees competitive compensation plans, generous PTO and work-life harmony, medical/dental/retirement plans, professional development and educational benefits, and the opportunity to earn an interest in the company.

Verger is expanding its team of talented investment professionals that play pivotal roles in every facet of the firm’s investment process.  Led by our Chief Investment Officer, team members actively contribute to asset allocation, portfolio construction, and the selection of investment managers.  As versatile generalists, our investment professionals collaborate across asset classes, leveraging their expertise to optimize performance.  In addition to these core responsibilities, investment team members serve as ambassadors for Verger within the industry, and actively partner with our client relations team in cultivating strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.

The responsibilities of Verger’s investment team encompass:

  • Sourcing, evaluating, and conducting due diligence on potential new managers to align with portfolio objectives, utilizing a blend of established relationships, industry connections, database analysis, and direct engagement with investment professionals. Independently conducting extensive research on a diverse range of managers and investment strategies, crafting comprehensive manager evaluation memos for team review.
  • Gathering research, prioritizing information flow, and synthesizing data into actionable investment insights. Recommending adjustments to the manager roster to enhance portfolio risk-adjusted returns in line with the team's objectives.
  • Overseeing existing manager relationships across the entire portfolio, engaging in thorough review processes, participating in update calls, and attending in-person meetings. Actively contributing to decision-making, while maintaining regular monitoring and reporting of portfolio performance, including analysis of exposures and risk factors, to inform strategic decisions.
  • Developing various portfolio, market, and investment commentaries for client reports, marketing materials, RFPs, and board meetings, to effectively articulate the firm's investment strategy and pertinent industry trends. Representing the firm at investment conferences and manager meetings, and when appropriate, serving on boards or advisory committees of investment funds.

Key attributes defining a successful investment team member include:

  • Self-motivated individual with exceptional abilities in prioritizing workflow, resource management, organization, and time management; exhibits a positive attitude and eagerness to tackle new challenges.
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity, along with a proactive entrepreneurial mindset, and thrives in a dynamic team environment, where rigorous debate is encouraged and expected.
  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of investment principles and strategies, with knowledge across investment asset classes and portfolio management strategies and theories.
  • Proficiency in sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and conducting due diligence on investment managers; adeptness in identifying, recommending, and implementing new investment initiatives to advance fund objectives.
